1. Response of Help A Child of India.
1. Needs Assessment and Package:
Help A Child of India put together Child Relief Package in consultation with local stakeholders such as community leaders, school teachers, parents and the children, and voluntary organizations.
Child Relief Package included of the following items with a cost of Rs.1, 600 per child:
✓ School Bag, Umbrella
✓ Water Bottle, Lunch Box
✓ Notes Books, Pencils and Pens with Box
✓ Towels and Bed Sheet
Emergency relief proposal with a budget of 30,000 Euros was submitted to REK for approval and the same was approved by REK.
2. Execution of the Project:
Relief team was formed with the following staff from Help A Child of India and Poondi Child Development Project:
Moses Andrews- Manager- Child Development and Disaster Management Programmes
Dulip Pravin- Manager – Finance and Audit Services
Jebakumar-Manager- Donor Engagement and Child Sponsorship
Joshua Billy Graham-Project Coordinator- Poondi Child Development Project
Dinesh G- Child Development Coordinator- Poondi Child Development Project
Along with the above staff team, a team of local relief volunteers were enlisted on the ground for relief distribution.
All the relief materials were procured at Chennai and transported through Indian Railways to Kerala.
Help A Child of India reached 1350 children from 17 schools and 6 communities from worst flood affected areas of Kuttanad which spread across Pathanamthitta, Allappuzha and Kottayam districts of Kerala.
Child Relief Package was provided to the children of daily labourers studying in government and government aided schools from far-flung places.
School staff, local governance officials and community leaders were actively involved in identification of needy children and supported during the relief distribution.
Mr.Saji Cheriyan, Member of Kerala Legislative Assembly participated in two distributions.
