Highlights

• 1. Lockdown situation enabled a new alternative method of Working from Home using technology to the maximum in communications with the colleagues at Chennai and the projects
• 2. Whatsapp groups have been active in communication and Zoom meetings enabled face to face also. Microsoft Team meets were already initiated by REK which was used extensively during the WFH period and may continue till lockdown ends.
• 3. Emails were mainly focussed on COVID status and response.
• 4. Funding for the targeted population is being presented for approval by the donor as all of the target is affected being 98% dependant on daily wages.
• 5. Fund raising from corporate : Options to raise funds using Chennai resettlement colonies as a target to reach 24000 families has been done.

PROJECTS UPDATE

• • I. The field status as of 3rd April 2020:
  • – Daily wage labourers, who form 98% our target population have zero income due to lockdown. Livelihoods affected.
  • – Parents are under pressure for meeting the day to day needs.
  • – Lack of proper food leave alone nutritious food for children and pregnant and lactating mothers.
  • – Children are under stress and tremendous pressure as they are confined to their homes.
  • – Rural areas shops are closed completely due to absence of transportation, the communities are not able to purchase essential commodities which are available in nearby towns only.
  • – Some family members (adults) have been strandeded in the cities of other states due to lockdown as a result fear/uncertainty increased among the families’ members.

II. Response:

• – Once COVID 19 reported and announced as global pandemic, the field teams have been alerted and conducted awareness on COVID 19 prevention among the children and parents.
• – After lockdown announced, awareness programme conducted digitally.
• – WhatsApp groups have been created among Child Development Committees, Farmers Committees, Disaster Task Forces and Child Leadership Teams.
• – Important government schemes/programmes have been disseminated to the target communities to encourage to access.
• – COVID 19 Project Protocol has been developed and executed.
